Service Description
Proudly working in conjunction with Te Pou, the national license holder of Mental Health First Aid® Aotearoa, we are now delivering Youth MHFA® courses nationally. Young people aged 12–24 make 17% of New Zealand's population, and taiohi are often misunderstood and face unique challenges in a rapidly changing world. By prioritising evidence-based strategies, we can unlock the potential of our future leaders and ensure better outcomes for all. Youth Mental Health First Aid equips adults who teach, care for, or support young people with the knowledge, skills and confidence to recognise, understand and respond to a young person experiencing a mental health challenge or mental health crisis. Our Youth MHFA Aotearoa course teaches adults how to provide initial support to a young person (aged 11 to 18) who may be experiencing a mental health challenge or crisis. Early intervention refers to recognising the warning signs of a mental health or substance use challenge and acting before it gets worse. When you realise the signs and symptoms of a mental health challenge early, it may be easier to get appropriate help from a counselor or medical professional before it becomes worse. Studies have shown that proper care and treatment make complete recovery from a mental health or substance use challenge attainable. Course Overview What is mental health?
